Breast Augmentation Surgery

Your surgery is done in the safety of Philadelphia's Nazareth Hospital's operating room, where you are cared for by our breast surgeon, Dr. Eisenberg, and his team of discreet and highly qualified registered nurses and certified anesthesiologists. A breast augmentation takes less than one hour and is performed under general anesthesia.

In the hospital before surgery, Dr. Eisenberg will mark the incision site, take pictures for your private records only, and review your medications and diet after surgery. You'll meet the anesthesiologist. Your significant other can be with you until you are transferred to the operating room.

For saline implants: After you receive general anesthesia (you will be completely asleep), Dr. Eisenberg will make an incision that is slightly longer than one inch under your breast near the crease. He will make a space, or pocket, behind the muscle that matches his preoperative markings. Your breast tissue is not touched during this process. He then places the empty implant in the pocket and fills it with saline through a closed sterile filling system. By starting with an empty breast implant, Dr. Eisenberg can make the smallest possible incision. That incision is closed with three strong layers of dissolvable stitches, which do not have to be removed. Patients generally lose less than a teaspoon of blood during the operation, which takes less than one hour. For silicone gel implants, the incision is approximately two inches and the implants are prefilled.

After surgery, you either will be placed in a sports bra for a week or wrapped with an Ace bandage for several days. This is determined on an individual basis. Then, you will be cared for in the recovery room by compassionate nurses until you are ready to go home. You must arrange for someone to drive you home.
